I have never talked about this before on any of my blogs because I didn’t want to risk getting in a debate over this topic, but I feel that now is the time I tell you why I do not support homosexuality.
If I supported homosexuality, I would be defying God.
In the beginning, God made a man and when He saw that he needed a companion, He made a woman out of Adam’s rib. Got that? MAN and WOMAN. God designed man and woman to be together – to be joined as one and to populate the earth.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it…” Genesis 1:27-28
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7
“But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.
And Adam said:
This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become on flesh.” Genesis 2:20-24
God didn’t make two men and two women. He didn’t design us to be attracted to the same sex – not at all. Nor did He make it so that men and women could just mix together and decide what sex to be with. God’s design was simple – Man and woman are to be joined together and populate the earth. Men were to be attracted to women and vice versa. Our bodies were made differently for this reason – this is why men can’t get pregnant.
It wasn’t until sin entered the world that everything began to tear apart. God’s holy, perfect design could now be broken by the sinful decisions people made.
Homosexuality has been around since Bible times – we know this because in the Bible we read that God destroyed an entire city because of the lust men had for each other. This alone proves that God does not condone this. That He hates it. And we are to hate it, too.
“Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.” Genesis 19:24-25
Hate the sin, not the sinner. We are called to love everyone – even our enemies. God doesn’t want us to hate people, but we can hate the sin that they are in. Becoming homosexual is sin. It goes against God’s design. So as Christians, it is okay to hate that. It’s okay to not support it. In fact, by doing that, we are pleasing God because we know what’s right and we are standing by what we believe in.
“You who love the Lord, hate evil!” Psalm 97:10
“Hate evil, love good…” Amos 5:15
“But I say to you, love your enemies…” Matthew 5:44
As a Christian who does not support homosexuality, I am constantly bewildered as to why other Christians DO support it. I wonder why they put a rainbow image as their profile picture on Facebook to show their support for it. I wonder why they are mad at those who don’t support it. Of all people, Christians should be leading by example and that means not supporting evil things. When a Christian supports something like that, it places a bad image on us.
“…be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
When I see a Christian who does support homosexuality, that tells me one thing – something is terribly wrong in their walk with God. Because if you read the Bible, you clearly see that God is against it. You clearly see how things are supposed to be and yet they are choosing to ignore all that and support it anyway? That’s not right. That’s saying the Bible isn’t true, which is calling God a liar and He never lies.
“As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven…” Psalm 18:30
Being homosexual is becoming so “normal” in this world. It’s showing up in movies, it’s showing up in books, TV shows – it’s pretty much everywhere. The new live action Beauty and the Beast movie coming out has an openly gay character and scene in it. I was so excited for this movie and now I don’t think I’m going to see it.
We have to stand up for what’s right and I feel that if I went to see this movie knowing what’s going to be in it already, I would be giving the impression that I’m okay with it. And I don’t want anybody thinking that I’m okay with it when I’m not. Aside from what other people might think, I need to think about this…
Would God really be okay with me seeing that? If He was physically here right now, would I go see that movie?
Nope, I wouldn’t.
And here’s the thing – God IS here. God is everywhere. He sees everything we’re doing and knows all our thoughts. He doesn’t want us to go intentionally see a movie like that. He doesn’t want us to say; “Oh, it’s just that one character,” or “Oh, it’s just that one scene.”
He wants us to stand up and say, “NO.”
Because even if it is just that one thing – that’s not good for you. It is spiritually unhealthy.
“Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.” Psalm 119:37
We think homosexuality is “normal” now, but before long it’s just going to get even worse. It’s going to be everywhere and in everything. A day may come when even I stop seeing movies because of this. Because it’s just not right.
You know what else isn’t right? Using rainbows as a gay symbol.
Rainbows are beautiful – not just for their appearance, but for the meaning behind them. The first rainbow was created when God promised Noah that He would never flood the earth again. For centuries, rainbows have been a sign of God’s promise, but these days they are used as symbols for bad, sinful things. I feel hesitant these days to buy anything with a rainbow on it because I’m worried people will think I support something that I don’t. And that’s really sad.
But no matter what the world has turned rainbows to mean, I know the truth and I love rainbows because God made them the day He made a very important promise. <3
“Thus I establish my covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” Genesis 9:11
“I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.” Genesis 9:13
I’m going to end with these few words;
No matter how “normal” gays become in your lifetime, don’t ever call it “normal.” Because it isn’t normal. What is normal is the holy, God ordained relationship between a man and a woman. That relationship, the marriage between man and woman is to reflect the relationship between God and His church.
That’s what’s normal. That’s what’s right.
